The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones Review

World under another world
The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones Review – Hang on for the review kejap ek. I want to rant a bit dulu because I don’t know where to start…it’s been a long time since I saw a cheesy movie like this one. It’s kinda ironic because it also been a while since I scored preview ticket from Cinema Online. My friend also won the preview tickets so I was glad I was not the only one who got duped into thinking this movie is worth spending your hard earned cash. There was a cool ‘happening’ before the preview started in the form of picture taking with props, fake tattoo and also character appearance, which I think was the only good thing about this movie.
Amacam? Ada gaya kan?
Now, let’s get into business shall we? Lily Collins plays Clary Fray, your average teenager growing up in New York who are going through the usual I-hate-you-Mom stage of relationship with her slightly weird Mother who in turn have a weird relationship with a guy named Luke. As Clary attains her so called ‘wisdom’, she starts having weird dreams and starts to draw weird symbols. She hangs out with her bestie, Simon (Robert Sheehan) and start ‘seeing’ Shadowhunters, a secret young half-angel warriors sworn on protecting the ‘mundanes’ (that’s how they refer to normal human beings) from Demons. Before Clary figures out how and why she starts experiencing these weird happenings, her mother disappears.
Errr.....no bones but got other stuff tough
Clary makes contact with one of the Shadowhunter by the name of Jace and he becomes her guide and go-to-guy to show her another side of the world. Clary becomes clear – pun intended about the existence of demons, werewolves, vampires, war locks (thank God no zombies!) and she also finds out that she is also a Shadowhunter. Her mother was assign to take care of a special cup, sort out by all these un-worldly creatures to be presented to Valentine, the bad arse of them all. Of course when her Mom goes missing, Clary becomes responsible for it because only she ‘knows’ where the location of the Cup. Throw in some CGI, weird almost gay like obsession, heck there’s even an idea of incest in pursuit, and there you go…that pretty much sum of it.
The cast
I don’t know what to say about the acting, mostly average, some was under-utilized while the rest looked more like ‘tangkap muat’ only. The special effects were a bit ok tough. You get to see were wolf, vampires, demons up close but the more ‘it’ appeared, the more I chuckled. The lines were cheesy, I almost burst laughing out loud few times. Why on Earth this movie was made is a question mark itself but if you like to watch movie as leisure, by all means…feel free to visit The City of Bones. Don’t say I didn’t warn you ok.
Why Jon? YYYYY????
Thank you Cinema Online for the preview tickets!
