Camille Rewind Review (French Film Festival Flick)

Better late than never!!!
Camille Rewind Review (French Film Festival Flick) – How sad it is that it took 2 years for this wonderful flick to reach our shores? It would not even see the day of light here if not for the French Film Festival and I would not have seen it if not for my friend, Sarah and I going on our impromptu French movie date! To be honest, I’m not really a big fan of foreign movies because I’m just too lazy to read the translation on the screen but then we are talking about French language which can sound both nice and annoying sometimes so let’s cut some slack for them Frenchies shall we? Qui?
When girls get together!
As the title suggest, it’s about Camille (Noémie Lvovsky – I have no idea how to pronounce her name! :P) a struggling actress in her late 40’s whom her husband, Éric (Samir Guesmi) just ditched for a younger women on New Year’s eve. Camille’s daughter convinces her to attend a party her friends since schooling years, Josepha (the rebel) [Judith Chemla], Alice (the geek) [India Hair], Louise (the pretty) [Julia Faure] are throwing. Camille dresses up in her late mother’s cloths and heads to the party. Overcome by emotions, Camille has a little too much to drink and blacks out. She wakes up the next morning in a hospital with her parents coming to get her and giving her a piece of their mind for drinking and partying too much. Camille is 16 years old all over again.  She tries to make sense of what’s happening but it seems like she is stuck in that situation for the time being. What makes it interesting is Camille already knows what is going to happen and tries to change some of the outcome to avoid heartache she have to face later on. Camille is not sure how long she will ‘stay’ as a teenager so she tries to make amends of the mistake she made when she was actually 16 years old.  Will she able to ‘change’ her past to life a better ‘future’? Is it even possible or it is even real that Camille got a second chance?
Ma & Pa!
Walking into the cinema without having any idea about the movie was a wonderful delight. The story was an absolute pleasure to watch. Noémie Lvovsky reminded me of Meryl Streep. It’s not even a surprise that she directed this brilliant film. For someone who is way past her teenage years, she played her part pretty well. I could relate to her joy, despair, anger and a wholesome other emotions because I myself am going thru some of her situation sans the waking up as a teenager part. The rest of the supporting cast were also equally marvellous, especially her Mom and Dad, they are such cool parents. Add Camille’s friends and her ‘husband’ into the mix and voila! What a perfect casting. Besides the storyline, the music was also rocking with the girls dancing to Katrina & The Waves performing Walking on Sunshine. I almost got up from my seat and danced in the cinema. Such a wonderful wonderful movie that is making me smile as i'm writing this review.
Love of her life???
Watching this picture made me wish I could wake up one day in my past. It also posed me to ask these questions…what I do? Would I change anything? Would I want to change anything? How about you? Would you want to ‘revisit’ your past?

P/s - Merci for the date Sarah, next round we go again okies. :)

Edge of Tomorrow Review

Tom & Emily ala Transformers stylo!
Edge of Tomorrow Review – Tom is back in the big screen and we get to see him die again and again and again and…..yup….again!
Ready to live, die & repeat again and again!
It’s been quite a while since I saw Mr. Scientology (I missed Oblivion) doing what he does best. After busy busting terrorist and other bad guys in his previous flicks, Tom finally graduates into killing aliens. Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Tom Cruise) is behind-the-scene-military-men who find himself suddenly thrown right smack in the middle of the battle between humans and aliens invading Earth called Mimics. Before he could learn how to use his weapon, he gets killed. End of the movie? Nope…not when he wakes up once again going thru the same war and dies only to wake up at the same situation. This goes on till he bumps into Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt). He saves her during one of the repeat battle and finally figures out what is happening to him. Rita had the same condition as Bill so together they combine force to try and end the devastating war. Bill has to die several times till he figures out how to take down the ferocious enemy. As time runs out will he and Rita be able to save the human kind or die one last and never wake up again?
Make way for my new leading lady please.....
The star of the show is Tom Cruise and he rightfully should be because he delivered one of his ‘charming’ performances to date. His confused state of mind, his will power to fight off the alien, his love to save Rita, his comedic antics. You gotta admit, nobody does it like the one and only Tom Cruise. Then there is Emily, this English rose was a good choice to be paired with Tom but I just feel she was slightly ‘under cooked’ for this role. I like my Emily all prim and proper so it was kinda hard for me to see her getting whacked, bruised while running around carrying weapons bigger than her tiny frame. She did well but I still would like to see her dressed up. Not a bad effort overall Missy. The alien in this movie are one of the worst I’ve seen. I would kill their arse too if I was one of the army personnel. Die you! Die you! Die you! The special effect well suited for any big budget movie so no complains there.
Woah...blonde hair Emily? Really now.....
With the arrival of this flick, one can bet that this year’s summer block busters are ready to roll out. Before the friendly alien robots (read: Transformers) takes over, we get to experience humans taking down Mimic! Heck yeah! Shot them! Kill them! One thing I wonder is why are ‘they’ so pissed? I mean you come to my planet, kill off my people yet you are still angry with us? Dafug is wrong with you stupid alien? Aku sepak kang baru tau! If you don’t like, go find another planet lar! Bengong.  *Damn…now I sound like one of our politicians don’t I?
We are ready to face the Edge of  Tomorrow! My usual preview suspects!

Chef Review

May I take your order please?
Chef Review - I’ve always admired Jon Favreau as an actor and a director. He is one of those rare talented people who can wear many hats and multi-task well without jeopardizing his vision on a project.  Lately he’s been busy behind the scene so it was only natural I had to catch him on screen trying on another hat as Chef! Let’s see how did his ‘cooking’ turned out to be shall we?
Indeed it is! :)
It’s a simple story about Chef Carl Casper (Jon Favreau) who’s been in a rut working in a high end restaurant. He wants to create his own signature menu. Unfortunately the owner, Riva (Dustin Hoffman) refuse to accept Carl’s idea. During an important review by food blogger, Ramsey Michel (Oliver Platt) Carl wanted to serve his creation but ends up following Riva’s instruction to stick with the original list of servings. Ramsey literally ‘murders’ Carl on the social network. While dealing with this blow, Carl had also had to take care of his son, Percy (Emjay Anthony) who looks up to him. Percy signs his Dad up with a twitter account and both Ramsey and Carl start their ‘war’ online. Carl invites Ramsey back to the restaurant to redeem himself but matters gets worst and Carl ends up losing his job and pride. Fortunately for him, his X-wife, Inez (Sofia Vergara) is still in good terms with him. She suggests Carl goes back to the basic by serving comfort food from food truck. This doesn’t sit well with Carl in the beginning but with no option left, Carl with the help of Inez’s X-husband, Marvin (Robert Downey Jr.) gives it a try. He is joined by his compadre, Martin (John Leguizamo) and Percy. Their truck travels from Miami gaining more ‘followers’ and fame. What will happen by the time they reach Los Angeles? Will Carl and Percy’s father son relationship strengthen? Will Carl gains back his lost pride?
Chef's at work yo!
Like I mentioned above, Jon can never go wrong with his creation, despite wearing the Director’s hat in this movie, he played the role, Chef, Father, Friend and X-Husband to perfection. I have no single complain about him despite his flaws in trying to be a good Chef, Father, Friend and X-Husband. This dude deserves some kinda recognition soon man! Another worthy mention should go to Emjay Anthony, this boy could steel/melt your heart in a second. So much talent in a tiny figure. I can see him growing up to be a heart breaker with his cute round eyes and curly hair. Sofia was her usual yummy self except for being a bit more mature but still looking yummy, I didn’t quite dig her blonde hair but who cares. John was his usual funny self, while being a true good friend when his friend was down and out of luck. The rest of the supporting cast was also well picked making this flick simply one of the best laid movies I’ve ever watched. Don’t get me started about the food. The only thing missing was the smell when you watch the Chef doing his magic. Even plain bread with cheese will make you drool. Combined with music to suit each pit stop  ‘El Jefe Cubanos’ truck makes, you will find yourselves moving to the melody. As the bond between Carl and Percy improves, you might wish you could get your parents to also drive a food truck across the country. There were so much touching moments in the movie, I found myself almost in tears at some point while also laughing at the jokes.

Come and get your order!
If there is one movie you need to watch this year despite the flooding of blockbusters, I would suggest you to enter this Chef’s kitchen/food truck. He provides all the right ingredients to warm your heart while teaching a lesson or two on how to get back up when you are at your lowest. It all depends on yourself. Either you lament your bad luck and remain where you are or you make changes to better yourself. A lesson I need myself with the situation I’m in. You will come out of the cinema with a satisfaction of paying for a good meal while being served great course. This Chef has definitely pleased me with his humble serving.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past Review

They are back!!!!
X-Men: Days Of Future Past Review - James mcAvoy, Michel Fassbender, Patrick Steward, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Ellen Page and moreeeeeee in one mutant flick???
Wanna play?
Do not walk into the cinema late or else you will be kicking yourself for missing one of the most awesome movie opening of the year. Its action packed from the word go! After the Cuban crisis in the first movie, X-Men : First Class, thing spiral down for the mutants when Prof X (Charles) [James McAvoy as the younger version & Patrick Steward as the wrinkler version] gives up on trying to make the humans understand about the mutant while Magneto (Erik) [Michael Fassbender as the younger version & Ian McKellen as the older version) get captured for killing a President while Mystique (Raven) [Jennifer Lawrence] are on her own mission to take revenge over the humans. The bleak future brings both former friends turned foe, Charles & Erik together to seek help from Kitty (Ellen Page) who can ‘travel’ back and forth time to change the course of history. Since both Prof X and Magneto are too weak to make the journey, Wolverin (Logan) [Hugh Jackman] volunteers to stop Mystique from committing a murder that would change the world. It’s not a walk in the park as the mutants have to face a new foe called Sentinel created by Dr. Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage). Wolverin meets with younger version of the mutants and tries to convince them to work together for the good of the world. With time running out in both past and future can the impending war be stopped or will it be the end of a species or the planet altogether? #amekko….no spoilers so go watch!
I believe I can flyyyyyyyyyyyyy.....or float or levitate?
Where the heck do I start? I was blown away with X-Men: First Class when my favourites joined the cast as the younger version of the mutants. I still watch it because even after all this years, it is one of the best X-Men movies ever made…until….BOOM! Days of Future Past upstaging it within minutes the movie starts! Some of the old cast are there while some have demise but its damn fun spotting your preferred actor or actress coming on screen one after another! Despite the time limitation, some had longer scenes but the short timed roles simply delivered their part when they need to. I assume the fan darlings for this time will the Quicksilver (Peter) [Evan Peters].  I bet you will fall in love with him so fast-pun intended you won’t even have time to Blink-another pun for the character (Fan Bingbing). The special effects were top notch, music, graphic, acting….heck! Simply put…I can’t put a finger on any flaws. Perhaps after few more views, I might notice some holes here and there but man! This X-Men exceeds all expectation and sets the bar high for the upcoming sequel in 2016 "X-Men: Apocalypse"!!! Wiiiiiiiiiiiiii! I can’t wait already!!!
Can you name them all?
I was not a fan of X-Men, in fact I dislike these kinda comic character but Bryan Singer converted me into a fan with his brilliant vision to bring fan favourites into the big screen. Screw The Land Stand and latest Wolverin, this flick is on a class of its own. Movie aside, I still have no idea if humans to turned into mutants. How would we react? I mean it is part of evolution but still…would we want to give up our place for something more evolved or perish trying to defend ourselves? Go figure!
Sedih ok tak menang contest gi Singapore to see them...nasib James and Jennifer tak datang!

P/s - Thanks Churp Churp for the preview tickets

Godzilla Review

'He' is back and bigger than before!
Godzilla Review – King Kaiju back on the big screen ten years since the remake….ko tamo tengok ke wey?
Watcha looking at Dad?
Where do I even begin except for a friendly warning…don’t miss the opening credit as it reveals some of the Godzilla’s past encounter with humans. Fast forward few years into the future when Japan is stuck with unexplainable tremors. People keep thinking that it was an earthquake except for Joe Brody (Bryan Cranston) who studies the pattern and believe that there is something more. Before he could figure out, he loses his wife, Sandra Brody (Juliette Boniche) right in front of his eyes. Joe then goes on a mission to find out the truth neglecting his son, Ford (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) who grows up to be military personnel. When Joe gets busted for trespassing their old living quarters, Ford return to Japan to bail his Dad out and that’s when similar events that happened 15 years ago start occurring again. They get caught in the middle of conspiracy and the government couldn’t hide the gigantic truth any longer. Godzilla unleash itself for the world to see but not without a purpose. The humans think that it is the end of the world but then Godzilla ends up being the best worst thing that happened in a long time. What it the reason for the beast to show itself and will it benefit or destroy human existence? Jeng jeng Roarrrrrrrrrrrrr
Let's take on the monster...but which one?
I remember anticipating to watch the 1998 Godzilla and came out wanting my money back. It was a big flop in my book. This remake however, despite being cheesy, it was entertaining enough to sit thru 2 hours laughing, smiling, smirking, gawking at the IMAX screen and once in a while when the Godzilla roars…I went woahhhhhhhhhh!!! Thank God this time, the voice was not provided by T-Rex from Jurassic Park and this fella had his own trademark roar! Heck even the way ‘he’ looked was true to the original the Godzilla appearance instead of borrowing some left over dinosaur skin. I don’t about others but when you get the glimpse of ‘him’ staring right at you, I was left with some goose bumps yo. Damn, I might just like this big lizard a little bit more than I should! Such awesomeness was the portrayal of this iconic figure blend with remarkable background sound to capture the right feel. Special effect as usual shows how city after city gets destroyed. Makes me wonder how they will rebuild it but then those filthy rich Americans sure can afford one lar right?
Why hello there big guy! *wink wink meow

Overall, it’s an entertaining watch to unwind. Please throw logic out of the window and just sit back and enjoy the ride. It’s unlike any other Godzilla you have watched before. You might like it or loathe it but don’t complain too much. If you think you can make a better movie then why are you just reading this review instead of directing a feature film of your own? This is not an Academy Award winning movie but a huge blockbuster meant to take your mind off things. Bring your friends and relive the greatness of Godzilla and remember this quote from the movie…"The arrogance of man is thinking nature is in our control...". Are we really in control?

P/s - Thank you hot magazine for the awesome IMAX 3D preview tickets!
with my own Godzilla gang at the preview! ROARRRRRRRRRRRR

Bad Neighbours Review

Bring it on!!!
Bad Neighbours Review – Zac Efron & Dave Franco as frat brothers– enough said!
Old school trying to bond with new school!
New parents, Mac (Seth Rogen) and Kelly (Rose Byrne) worst nightmare comes true when a group of collage frats boys moves in next door with them. The couple tries not to make things awkward by befriending Teddy (Zac Efron), Pete (Dave Franco) together with their ‘Delta Psi Beta brothers’. However, boys will be boys and all hell breaks loose when the non-stop partying hit the nerves. Mac and Kelly try to get these party animals out of their neighbourhood while Teddy comes up with counter plan. With the peace of the neighbourhood hanging in the balance, how will the rivalry end? Good or bad?
....that abs.....yummy yum yum
Zac Efron…and Dave Franco…my oh my…where do I begin without having any noti thoughts about these two perfect human specimen? They just had to appear on screen and I’m transported into my teen years. I can’t elaborate further without embarrassing myself but you should get the picture. Oh…then there was Seth and Rose…well…they need somebody else to look at in the movie right. Storyline is pretty ridiculous but who cares? All I wanted to look at Zac going topless! Yummyyyyyy
Be my neighbour pls.....
Watch it…I dono why but watch it if you had a bad day. I went in for the movie after a crappy mode and lit up almost immediately laughing my arse off even though the jokes are pretty lame. Sometimes you just need lame so you can forget your trouble a bit and relax. There is however an underlying message…the new parents coming into terms they are no longer the person they used to be…bound by responsibility of taking care their baby. While the frat boy refusal to think about his future after collage. It’s about moving on and adapting to life as we grow older which does not necessarily make a person matures until they realize they have to take control of their destiny.
how is it even possible to look this good? *drool

The Other Women Review

Wedding ring or.....just a ring?
The Other Women Review – Haiz…what a mistake I made when I choose to let go the preview tickets for this movie! Punyalah susah lepas tu nak book ticket! Semua tempat dah penuh giler but somehow I managed to catch it, itupun dapat seat depan giler but since I was with a good company, we just overlooked the crappy seat and enjoyed ourselves. Berbaloi ke duduk hampir mendongok tengok gamba ni? Haaaa…..jom baca my review.
I spy.....a cheaterrrrrrrrrr
As the title goes, it’s about a married man, Mark (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), who cheats on his wife with another other women. Worst part is...he is not just cheating on his wife, Kate (Leslie Mann) the basterd even cheats on his other women, Carly (Cameron Diaz) with another woman, Amber (Kate Upton)! Greedy much dickhead? Carly manage to find out that her boyfriend is actually a married man and decides to cut all ties with him. Carly stumbles upon Kate and they somehow end up being good friends bent on taking revenge against Mark. As they get deeper into their plot, they discover more ugly truth about Mark and his scams. Together the ladies try to teach the pig a lesson he will never forget. Will they get their revenge or fall all over again over the cheater’s charm?
Heck yeah!!!
Cameron Diaz is back doing what she does best yo! With the help of Leslie Mann and Kate Upton. These girls had chemistry bonding over the fraud. Cameron as  a smart lawyer keeping things calm while Leslie goes nuts after finding out she doesn’t have anything of her own, while Kate…with her boobs. Hehehe…Nikolaj was charming when he needed to be but the women in you feel like cutting his dick off for taking advantage of this poor woman’s. Heck, even Nicki Minaj was fun to look at with her clothes on. The cast was well picked; the story was relating enough to feel the women’s frustration. Overall, it’s a good watch for guys trying to think of cheating his girlfriend or wife in the name of LOVE (read: Lust!) while a good lesson to learn for the girls to pick up to avoid being a victim!
when ladies unite!
Cheating on one’s partner have become so common these days that some people don’t think twice about doing it. They take pleasure in temporary feeling instead of building a long term bond. Best part or should I say worst part is they realize what they are doing is wrong but yet feelings take over the logic. I’m not saying am perfect when it comes to relationship but I’ve been thru the same situation so I can understand the feeling of being cheated on. If you really are in love the person who you are with...why would you even want to think about cheating? It may not be personal to you but have your thought about how the person you are cheating feels about it?
