Momentum Review - Never underestimate a women’s power!

Don't let her petite size fool you. 

Alex (Olga Kurylenko) is caught in a cat and mouse game when all her criminal partners are killed after a bank heist. Little did she knew that the diamonds along with a ‘drive’ containing a very valuable information is about of cost her life. With time running out and she finally getting captured by her chaser, can Alex make one last getaway to find out the truth about the drive?

She will do whatever it takes! 

The Momentum-pun intended of this movie goes on full action mode from the word get-go! The way Alex tries of stay one step ahead of the baddies who are after her is interesting to watch. Add the ‘conversation’ parts between Alex and Mr. Washington, it was both entertaining and annoying. Meanwhile Olga who was in Quantum of Solace before looked like she could really kick James Bond arse in this flick as well.

Will there be a sequel? 

The ending suggested a sequel, I just hope it will improve and progress from of the flaws on this film.

Crimson Peak Review - Careful who you marry!

The players and the preys. 

Edith Cushing (Mia Wasikowska) is an aspiring author who falls in love and marries the charismatic yet shadowy inventor called Sir Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston). After the death of her father, Edith moves to Thomas hometown called Crimson Peak and both of them live together with Thomas sister, Lucille Sharpe (Jessica Chastain) in a run-down manor. Years before Edith meets Thomas, her dead mother warns her about Crimson Peak and soon after warning comes from different ‘entities roaming’ around the mansion. Edith starts to dig deeper until she uncovers a horrible truth surrounding the Sharpe siblings and the estate of Crimson Peak. Will she make it out alive and fall prey to a cruel manipulation? 

Heed the warning or pay the price. 

All the main cast consisting of Tom, Mia and especially Jessica was top notch in this gothic kind of flick which was good distraction from a weak storyline. I managed to ‘see’ the twist way before it was revealed. Another diversion was in the form of beautiful costume and set designs. The wardrobe was elegant while the set was creepy enough to send chill down one’s spine. I would not dare to explore the mansion even in broad daylight let alone in dark! I also didn’t like the cheap thrills of CGI capturing the entities, it was scary but didn’t leave much impression after it was gone.   

Would you dare to seek the truth behind the wall? 

Overall it was kinda of a let-down for me. I was hoping to have nightmares after watching it yet all I got was…how do I say it…my supposed to be WOW but instead it turned into a mere MEH.

Still a dapper looking Detective 

Mr. Holmes Review - Will the once famous detective still be active or fade into obscurity? 

Holmes Logic...

Everyone knows the story of detective Sherlock Homes when he was younger but what happened to him towards his twilight year? Well into his 90’s he has trouble remembering names let alone cases that he once investigated. With a help of his housekeeper brilliant son, Roger, Holmes slowly jog his memory on his last investigation while taking care of his bee hives on a small sleepy town.

Let me take a closer look. 

After playing the memorable roles of Gandalf and Magneto in The Lord of the Rings and X-Men series respectively, there is no stopping Sir Ian McKellen from adding another prolific role to his resume. He embodies the character well and it’s interesting to watch him play a very excellent and eccentric character. Special mention goes to Milo Parker who plays Roger, he is just a charming young fella who will definitely grow into an incredible talent. The storyline is an old English style so one have to bare before the interesting portion of the movie rolls out but when it does, it is a well worth.

Watch out for the boy! 

I’ve always liked movie from across the pond such as Love Actually, Bridgett Jones (sequel coming up soon!) Love, Rosie (you get the flow) because it’s quite different from their Hollywood counter-part. Perhaps it’s the posh part that are missing but Hail Britannia for covering the story portion of a movie instead of just focusing on the special effects. Mr. Holmes is one definitely such gem.

Sicario The Mexican Hitman Review - It’s a ‘fun’ and ‘games’ until shitee gets serious.

Kate Macer (Emily Blunt) is an FBI agent absorbed to help elite government task force to bring down a very influential drug lord. The hunt brings the team to cross the dangerous border between United States and Mexico. One wrong move and the whole mission will go down the drain. However there is more to the assignment as Macer finds out later and it’s up to her to do or die. 

Gempak rite the poster? 

Emily oh Emily...why would you want to get down and dirty? It hurts to see your beautiful face getting filthy and your body being whacked. You should just do girly movie. Call me biased but I prefer her to maintain her good-looking feature that way. Hehe. The rest of the manly cast were up to the par namely Benicio and Josh till at one point I feel like beating the crap of them. Which means they only did the job well. 

Lovely English Rose, pls remain this way and let other ladies do the rough acting ok. 

Watch this if you feel like ‘signing’ up for any of the elite organization to get an idea on how bad things can get and how to survive the ordeal. 

Asterix: The Mansions Of The Gods Review

Gauls ready to take on the Roman Army! 

Asterix: The Mansions Of The Gods Review - Can a tiny villagers take on the mighty Roman Army! 

What is thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat??? 

Julius Caesar is on a mission to expand his territory but a village full of Gauls are in his way. To lure the villagers to make way and join his command, Julius builds Mansions of Gods which seemed to work except for Asterix and Obelix who remain on their village. This two best friends hatch a plan of their own to pull back their residents and chase Caesar away from for once and for all. Will their plan succeed or will their lose their home to the mighty Roman army?

No Mansion of God but it's home! 

This flick is strictly for kids to enjoy with some adult words thrown at. Despite being catered for kids, I still find it fun. We sometimes need to ‘look’ at history from a kid point of view I guess. Perhaps the little ones will be interested in history after watching this film. There are also lesson to be learned about standing up for what you believe. 

Who will win the battle? Julius or Asterix?  

I believe the kids would truly enjoy this. *insert smiley face.

The Martian Review – What would you do if you are stuck millions of miles away from home? 

Mars to Earth, do you copy? 

Ares 3 crew consisting of astronauts Commander Lewis (Jessica Chastin), Watney (Matt Damon), Martinez (Michael Pena), Johanssen (Kate Mara), Beck (Sebastian Stan) and Vogel (Aksel Hennie) are on a mission to collect samples from planet Mars when a heavy storm forces them to abort their assignment and leave the surface. While trying to evacuate, Watney gets hit by debris and left stranded presumed dead by his crew. Little did they know that he was able to endure the storm and needs to find a way to stay alive until rescue reaches him. Left with no option, Mark starts his survival plan using whatever he can find at the outpost hub. With his botanic wits, he manages to ‘grow’ potatoes while also establish communication with NASA. Meanwhile, back at Earth, NASA gathers their best team to figure out a way to bring back him back. With time running out on both side while Watney having to face the harsh elements of the planet, can he sustain his sanity and stay alive before help arrives?

No shit - like literally! 

Check out the cast for the crew on Mars, that itself is a mind blowing aspect of this movie. Add more credible names playing their part on Earth. You got from drama to comedy to Oscar nominee and winner himself, Matt Damon carrying the title role. Each of them no matter how big or small their role was simply brilliant. Further enhancement is the awesome cinematography, when you are in Mars, you are in Mars. Every curve and curb was well captured in the camera. The production team took all the effort to make this film as one of the best space movie. Include 70’s disco music playlist (come on Watney, how could you not like ‘em disco beats man!) and voila, recipe for a blockbuster even Martians would be proud off. If you can’t tell how impressed I am about this film then I can’t help you mate.

Life-saver! Like seriously! 

If you think one life doesn’t make a difference, you should watch this movie. If you think you are alone in this world, you should watch this movie. If you think becoming an astronaut is just about hopping on a rocket, you should watch this movie. Get my drift? Read: You should watch this movie. I will leave you with this… if you think you a just an ordinary person well, add extra to ordinary, and you, like Mark Watney, can be extraordinary!

Do you dare? 

Everest Review – Would you risk your life to ‘see’ the view that not many get to see?

Ironlady Yasuko. Will she make it lucky 7th summit? 

The movie is based on true events that happened in 1996 when two commercial climbing companies, Adventures Consultants and Mountain Madness meet at the base camp to prepare to reach Mount Everest summit. Head climber, Rob Hall (Jason Clarke) leaves his heavily pregnant wife, Jan (Keira Knightley) back in New Zealand with the promise that he will be back in time for the birth. Once the group are gathered, they slowly make their way to the peak faced with numerous problems and complications. Besides the physical obstacles, the climbers had to also endure mental difficulties. Humans can predict the weather but nature has its own plan. Just within few minutes, situation changes between life or death. Of all of the hikers, who will make it to the top and most importantly who make it back alive (if any)?  

The hikers 

Jason Clarke (Planets of the Ape, Terminator Genisys) is the guy people recognise but can’t remember from where. He is not your typical good looking chap but he is a good actor. In this movie, he once again carries his role well. I hope he will be featured in more movies in the future. One familiar face is Jake Gyllenhaal who has proved his versatile acting talent. Looking like a hippie, Jake gave his role as Scott Fischer a real feel. Josh Brolin meanwhile will annoy you as snotty Beck Weathers. While other characters in the film showed that the casting director did an excellent job to match the actors with the real person’s personality. Another awesome feature of the movie is the brutal mountain environment itself. One could almost ‘feel’ how dangerous and treacherous the conditions are once you get to the challenging part of the climb.

One day maybe Mani ey? Errrr.....

With the recent earthquake that hit both Nepal and Kota Kinabalu which claimed many lives, I got nothing but respect for those who are willing to risk their lives to reach their dream. May your achievement inspire future generation to make their mark while I stay safe at home. Hehehe.
